Feast of Saint Martin
📅 Every year, on 11 November
On 11 November Castel San Niccolò celebrates its patron Saint Martin, to whom the Pieve di San Martino a Vado is dedicated.
Strada in Casentino, which is the chief village, is called the town of worked stone: around it are the quarries of pietra serena, and in it the families of stonecutters who have handed the trade down for centuries. In the former Jesuit college there is a museum, and every two years a biennale brings sculptors here from all over the world. On the hills, meanwhile, they grow firs to sell at Christmas.
The castle of the counts Guidi was called Corte in Vado and stood on the boundary between the republics of Arezzo and Florence. It was the Guidi's until 1440, then the residence of the Florentine podestà; when the podestà moved to Poppi, the castle became a farmhouse, and so it stayed until the restoration of 1970. Inside, one hall has mullioned windows with the arms of the Arte della Lana.
