The patron saints of Bagno a Ripoli are Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated on 29 June.
The Palio delle Contrade, established in 1980, re-enacts both the ancient ride of young people at Pentecost and the population's struggle for freedom from Florence, dating back to the Middle Ages: the event takes place on the second Sunday of September, with a parade of hundreds of performers in period costume made by the residents themselves. During the day, the three districts into which the town is divided — Cavallo, Mulino and Torre e Alfiere — compete in the Giostra della Stella and various traditional games, including tug of war and the sack race.
