Capannori

Province: Lucca · Region: Tuscany · Population: 44,898 · Postal code: 55012

Capannori is an archipelago of forty villages on the plain of Lucca, famous for two records at opposite poles: the historic villas of the Lucchese nobility — the Villa Reale at Marlia, where Paganini played, the Torrigiani, the Mansi — and being the first municipality in Italy to declare itself "Zero Waste", an environmental laboratory studied across Europe.

At San Martino in Colle lives the Witches' Oak, the monumental centuries-old tree that folk tradition ties to Collodi's fairy tales. The neoclassical Nottolini aqueduct crosses the countryside on Grand Tour arches: minor Tuscany that is not minor at all.
