The villages hereabouts are round, huddled about their castle; Riparbella is not, it stretched out along the road that runs on the ridge. The name is said to mean white bank, from the colour of the tufa and the sand at the top of the hill, and it is already written down in 1034.
Below the village lies an Etruscan necropolis, that of Belora: it had been known since the eighteenth century, but was properly excavated only once, in 1986, and by then many pieces of the old collection had ended up scattered across Europe. Since 2025 what is left can be seen in a museum in the village. On the ridge of Poggio Malconsiglio ten wind turbines turn.
