During the First World War the basin of Alano lay in a neutral zone, and for that reason it was struck by the Austrian and the Italian artillery together: the territory came out of it literally devastated. Afterwards people left, for Europe and the Americas, as they had already been doing since the eighteen hundreds; and after the second war they left again, for Belgium, Germany and France. Before all that, this was a place people had fought over for centuries: Feltre and Treviso disputed it, and the fighting went on into the early fifteen hundreds, at the time of the League of Cambrai, over the possession of the fourteenth-century fortress of Castelnuovo, from which both the road and the river were commanded.

From the early fifteen hundreds came three quiet centuries instead. The land was hard and gave little, so they kept sheep and learned trades: they worked wool and iron and made lime, and Fener, on the Piave, became a fair centre of trade. Today the work is eyewear, chandeliers and joinery. The main church was originally San Pietro, named for the first time in a papal tithe of 1297; in 1535 a pastoral visit records that the Sacrament and the font had been carried into Sant'Antonio abate, which stood more centrally, and that has been the church ever since. And Alano di Piave is no longer a comune: on 22 January 2024 it merged with Quero Vas, and the two together are now called Setteville.
