Saint Titian the Bishop, patron of the land of the Castello di Zumelle

Borgo Valbelluna celebrates Saint Titian the Bishop on 16 January.
Borgo Valbelluna is a comune of 2019: it was born on 30 January of that year from the merger of Trichiana, Mel and Lentiai, after a referendum held on 16 December 2018. The inhabitants chose their coat of arms too, in a popular consultation in May 2022: it is quartered and holds together the pieces of the three villages — the castle for Lentiai, the patriarchal cross for Mel, the river for Trichiana — plus three stars, which stand for the merger itself.
At Mel, where the town hall is, the archpriest's church of Santa Maria Annunziata has no bell tower: the one it had collapsed in a fire in the eighteenth century and was never rebuilt. In falling, though, it also destroyed the old church of the Addolorata beside it, and of that today only the apse remains — which is the little church one visits, with its paintings of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. In the square stands the Antenna of 1520, and around it the palaces of the local nobility, where the line of the old walls can still be read in the façades. Below the built-up area, instead, lies the paleo-Venetic necropolis, one of the most interesting of the Iron Age, whose grave goods are in the civic archaeological museum.
