Feast of Saint Justina
📅 Every year, on 7 October
On 7 October Limana celebrates its patron Saint Justina, with Saint Valentine as co-patron on 14 February; the territory inspired Dino Buzzati's "I miracoli di Valmorel".
Limana has 5,061 inhabitants in the middle of the Valbelluna, from the three hundred and twenty metres of the Piave's gravel bed to the nearly fifteen hundred of Monte Pezza. The name comes from the stream, which a document of 794 calls fluvii Limana, and would go back to the Latin limen, boundary: and a boundary it truly was, first between the Roman municipia of Belluno and Oderzo, then between the dioceses of Belluno and Ceneda. In the church of San Biagio, at Canè, a Roman funerary urn bearing the name of Marcus Iunius Maximus has been walled in for centuries.
Until 1806 the hamlets governed themselves through the Regole, headed by a Marigo and by the Massari, who administered the common woods and pastures according to their own statutes; then Napoleon came, the Regole ended and the territory was broken into five comuni. Today's comune was born around 1871, with its seat at Pieve di Limana, which had always been the centre. But in the twentieth century the new roads passed elsewhere: the centre moved to the hamlet of Dussoi, which since the sixties has simply been called Limana Capoluogo.
