The patron of Abano Terme is Saint Lawrence the martyr, and his day falls on 10 August.
The bond between the town and the saint is more than a thousand years old. The first reliable record of a medieval settlement, in 971, speaks precisely of a church of Saint Lawrence at Abano, whose estates had passed to the abbey of Farfa. The historic centre later grew up around the cathedral dedicated to the saint, built from 1780 and consecrated in 1935.
