Until the early 1990s, Cadoneghe was synonymous with Grosoli SpA, once Europe's most prominent slaughterhouse and meat company. The founding family sold the business in the 1980s, and its subsequent closure left this municipality of almost 16,000 residents without a major industrial anchor.
Positioned on the Brenta River just north of Padua, the town first appeared in local records as Cadonice in 1235. Interestingly, the modern municipal seat operates from the populous Mejaniga district rather than the original hamlet, managing a community that was famously celebrated in 1975 as Italy's best city.
