Feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot
📅 Every year, on 17 January
On 17 January Piacenza d'Adige celebrates its patron Saint Anthony the Abbot, to whom the town's church is dedicated.
The village bears the name of a city two hundred kilometres away, and no source explains why: what is known is that here there was a bend of the Adige full of marshes and mills, straightened and drained by the Venetians between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. One hamlet is called Valli Mocenighe and keeps the name of the Mocenigo, who had their palace there.
In the coat of arms, granted in 1966, the golden lion stands for the lords who came here on holiday, Este, Contarini, Cornaro, Morosini and Mocenigo, who hunted and fished in these valleys; the blue band is the Adige, which marks the border with the Polesine. The church of Valli Mocenighe, enlarged and consecrated in 1876, today looks out on the cable-stayed bridge and the motorway junction.
