Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel
📅 Every year, on 29 September
On 29 September Sant'Angelo di Piove di Sacco celebrates Saint Michael the Archangel; the village also preserves the Bosco di Sant'Angelo woodland.
In 897 Berengar, king of Italy, gave this area to the bishop of Padua, and the local fishermen began paying their dues in fresh fish, caught in the Chiusadoneghe, the great sheet of water that lay towards Liettoli. The village appears in documents from 1080.
Before that it had been the Lombards who made the area habitable: they embanked the Canalazzo and channelled into it the water that flooded everything. The municipal arms come from those of the Santanzolo, the family that gives the village its name: in the version used from 1886 there were eight alternating bands of blue, silver and red, crossed by a bar inscribed Santanzolo.
