The Most Holy Saviour, patron of Brugine
📅 Every year, on 6 August
Brugine celebrates the Most Holy Saviour on 6 August.
Villa Roberti stands on top of a castle: that of the Maccaruffo, a family allied with the Carraresi of Padua, of which the little tower remains. When in 1405 Venice defeated the Carraresi and put an end to the Paduan lordship, the property of their supporters was auctioned off to pay the costs of the war; the lands of Brugine were bought on the fifteenth of August 1422 by one Antonio Roberti, and that is where the villa's name comes from.
The church of the hamlet of Campagnola has changed its dedication four times in three centuries: in 1297 it is dedicated to Saint Mary, at a fifteenth-century visitation it appears as Saint Mary and Saint Peter, in 1571 as Saint Peter alone, and in the end it becomes Saints Peter and Paul. The municipal arms keep count of the two villages and the two parishes: two comets for Brugine and Campagnola, two stars for their churches.
