Long before modern borders existed, the Etruscans established Atria as a vital port serving Felsina, today's Bologna. The legacy of this ancient trading depot is so profound that it likely gave its name to the Adriatic Sea. Today, the remains of that original settlement lie three to four meters directly beneath the modern streets.
With just over 20,200 residents, contemporary Adria sits quietly in the Veneto region, positioned between the mouths of the Adige and Po rivers. While the ancient waterways have shifted, the town's layered history remains a fascinating archaeological reality in the province of Rovigo.
