San Bellino

Province: Rovigo · Region: Veneto · Population: 1,156 · Postal code: 45020

The bells of the village went away and came back. In 1843 there were four of them; during the war three were requisitioned, and only the biggest remained, because it was too heavy to carry off. They returned in 1947, for the eight hundredth anniversary of the death of Saint Bellino, given back by a foundry in Padua. At Presciane it went the same way: the only original one is of 1841, the other two are of 1948.

In the church of Presciane, above the entrance, there is an organ by Gaetano Callido, of the eighteenth century. The first chapel had been built on 1 March 1078 and came through the floods of the Po unharmed. Today, in the fields around the village, there is one of the largest photovoltaic plants in Italy, of seventy megawatts.
