The village is named after a man who stayed three years. After the flood of the Po in 1471, which drowned an already marshy area, the duke of Ferrara Ercole I d'Este granted the land to be drained in fief to one of his counsellors, Guglielmo Pincaro of Parma: it was 10 April 1473, with privileges and exemptions from taxes. Pincaro built his villa on the ground taken back from the water and died in Ferrara in 1476.
Of that reclamation the name and the fields remain. In the nineteenth century the Mantovani family set up a liqueur distillery here, which is still going: the old tools of the trade are gathered in a company museum, open to anyone who wants to see how distilling was done.
