Breda di Piave

Province: Treviso · Region: Veneto · Population: 7,750 · Postal code: 31030

At the beginning of the fourteenth century the castle of Breda and its church were entrusted to the Knights Templar; when the order was suppressed the property passed to the Knights of Malta, who held it until 1803. Earlier still, around the ninth century, the church of San Paolo was a monastic fief of the monks of Casier, and the castle had been built by the bishops of Treviso.

The municipality is the sum of villages that each grew up on its own: Pero around the church of San Colombano, Pero di Sopra in the twelfth century around San Giovanni, Saletto and San Bartolomeo long remaining country hamlets. At San Bartolomeo stands the Mulino della Sega, at once a piece of industrial archaeology and the monument to the fallen of the Great War.
