Read more →Treviso is the third most populous province in the Veneto, yet its capital holds less than a tenth of that number: 81,000 people out of almost 877,000, spread over 94 municipalities. This is a province of many centres rather than one, running from the border with mountainous Belluno in the north, where the plain lifts into hills, down to the edge of the Venetian lagoon, with Friuli-Venezia Giulia to the east and Vicenza to the west.
The strongest draw is not the capital but Conegliano, at the mouth of the Prosecco hills. Treviso itself still earns a day, with its canals and arcaded streets and an old centre you can walk end to end. Beyond it, Castelfranco Veneto keeps its full square of medieval walls, Vittorio Veneto sits under the pre-Alps, and Oderzo marks the road east towards Friuli.
