Povegliano has 5,052 inhabitants north of Treviso, between the city and the Montello, and it still carries the Roman squaring on its back: when the Veneto was centuriated, today's via Postioma and via Barrucchella were two decumani and via Sant'Antonio a cardo, and the countryside around was made of farms and of the villas of landowners, one of which has come back to light at Camalò. The name too comes from there: it is a prediale, the estate of a Paulus or a Popilius.
The village and the hamlet of Santandrà appear for the first time in 994, in a diploma with which Otto III granted Rambaldo di Collalto some land north of the Postumia. The hardest moment came with the Great War: the Piave front was so close that the town hall had to move, first to Ponzano and then to Camalò, while the inhabitants scattered as refugees. It had been hard before too, with the crisis that after unification pushed many people of Povegliano to sail for Brazil.
