Costermano, like Rome, stands on seven hills: Castello, Montegolo, Are di Sopra, Le Guardie, Boffenigo, Murlongo and Baesse. Between them and the municipality of Garda opens the Valle dei Mulini, cut by the Tesina torrent into the morainic hills to a depth of about a hundred metres: since 2000 it has been a site of community interest, two hundred and thirty-five plant species have been counted in it, there are petrifying springs depositing travertine, and the old rural courts that were once mills are now houses. It is also a fragile valley: a landslide on the last day of 2020 reminded everyone of that.

Human presence here is old: at Maoni, on a morainic spur overlooking the valley, Bronze Age pottery has come to light, and at the Sengie di Marciaga there are Iron Age rock carvings showing warriors with swords and horsemen. The villages proper, however, grew out of the estates of the monastery of Santa Giulia in Brescia. Costermano and Castion were separate municipalities until the ninth of April 1928, when a royal decree joined them and established that the seat would be Costermano. In the territory lies the German military cemetery, with some twenty-two thousand graves, the third largest in Italy.
