Saints Peter and Paul, patrons of the town of ceramics
📅 Every year, on 29 June
Nove celebrates Saints Peter and Paul on 29 June, in the church dedicated to them.
Nove has 5,069 inhabitants on the alluvial fan of the Brenta, and its name says exactly how it was born: terrae novae, the new lands won by clearing the Vegra and taken from the river as it sank and shifted. The village square and the whole eastern part were the bed of the Brenta. It was the river that left the clay here, and from the clay came the ceramics, which are the trade of Nove.
Until the fifteenth century Nove was a district of Marostica; it broke away for religious life in 1453 and for civil life much later, after a failed attempt and a reunification. On 6 November 1796 the town was the scene of the battle of the Nove, between Napoleon's army and the Austrians: five thousand men were left on the field. The memory of those days has ended up in the ceramics: the cuchi, the terracotta whistles still made here, were born as a mocking caricature of Napoleon and of rulers in general.
