Bassano's Ponte Vecchio is wooden by Palladio's design: he drew it in 1569 flexible enough to withstand the Brenta river. Destroyed and rebuilt several times — most recently by the Alpini corps, who made it their symbol — it remains one of Italy's best-loved bridges. At its ends, historic grappa houses: the Nardini family has distilled here since 1779.
