Feast of Saint Stephen
📅 Every year, on 26 December
On 26 December Allein celebrates Saint Stephen; in summer, instead, comes the Fëta di Trifolle, devoted to potato soup.
On the site of the first church, at Ville, a fragment of wall beside a stone basin reads «Maria anno MVII leprosis laboravit»: it is the oldest record of leprosy in the Aosta Valley.
In 1543 Charles III of Savoy detached Allein and Doues from the lordship of Gignod and sold them to Nicolas de la Crête for 1,500 gold scudi. The fifteenth-century fortified house in the village of Ayez now holds the museum of the Coumba Freida carnivals; the chapel beside it is an ex voto raised after the epidemic of 1630. The 248 residents live on the meadows above the Artanavaz, and since 1993 the last week of August brings the potato soup festival.
