Lillianes

Province: Aosta · Region: Aosta Valley · Population: 465 · Postal code: 11020

At 1,800 metres, in a place called Plan des sorcières, the witches' plateau, a rock carries cup marks arranged like the Pleiades: an archaeo-astronomical site, and on its own it says how high the gaze of the people who lived here reached.

Lower down, the village monument is a stone bridge of 1733, which also ended up on the coat of arms together with four lilies, echoing the name of the Lys torrent and the four ancient divisions of the territory. The parish church of San Rocco is seventeenth-century but keeps a fifteenth-century bell tower. Being close to the Canavese, the 465 residents speak Piedmontese as well as patois.
