Perloz

Province: Aosta · Region: Aosta Valley · Population: 453 · Postal code: 11020

Perloz is one of the comuni decorated for military valour in the war of liberation: it received the bronze medal for the sacrifices of its people and for the partisan struggle. Long before that, in 1195, documents already record a house here lived in by the Vallaise, the lords who from the thirteenth century ruled almost the whole Lys valley.

The village hides among the chestnut trees, on a crag above the torrent, and has kept a mild climate and a good deal of fourteenth- and fifteenth-century building. The land of its 453 residents runs from the 450 metres of the valley floor to the 2,710 of Monte Crabun. On the coat of arms is the Virgin and Child venerated at the sanctuary of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, a statue of the thirteenth or fourteenth century.
