The patron saint of San Mauro Forte is Saint Maurus the Abbot, celebrated on 15 January. The following day, 16 January, sees the start of the Sagra del Campanaccio, an age-old festival whose origins lie both in pagan propitiatory rites tied to the cult of the earth and transhumance, and in sacred celebrations honouring the patron saint.
The town also intensely experiences the Good Friday procession: the cortege, setting out from the old Franciscan monastery, is opened by Our Lady of Sorrows, followed by the Dead Christ and Calvary, and winds through the streets to the sound of an ancient funeral lament. San Mauro Forte preserves traces of its history in the church of Santa Maria Assunta, in the medieval tower and in the old town gates, Piazzile and Iodice.
