The patron of Latronico is Saint Giles the abbot, celebrated on 1 September. The feast, with the statue carried in procession through the streets, lasts three days: 30 and 31 August and 1 September.
His church is the basilica of Sant'Egidio Abate, in the old centre: probably enlarged in 1570, when the marble statue of the saint was carved, it partly collapsed in the earthquakes of 1837 and 1857 and was rebuilt by 1859. In the left transept is the 18th-century fresco of Saint Giles meeting King Wamba, from which, since 1709, on one or more Fridays in March seeps what is known here as the Holy Manna. In the crypt, built in 1998, the silver bust of the town's protector is kept.
