Feast of Saint Blaise
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February Rapolla celebrates Saint Blaise. His church, half Latin and half Byzantine, keeps the wooden statue of the saint: a rowan trunk carved in the 12th century.
In Rapolla the wine lives underground: in the urban park of cellars, inside cavities cut into the volcanic tufa of the Vulture, where the temperature stays the same all year. Malvasia, Aglianico and Moscato rest there — and the rock that keeps them cool is the same rock that made the hill.
The other wealth is water: three springs in the Orto del Lago district give acidulous, iron-rich water, and the town's spa trade grew from them. Rapolla lies on the north-eastern flank of the Vulture, at 450 metres, between two rivers; there are 4,430 residents.
