Feast of Saint Peter the Apostle and Martyr
📅 Every year, on 29 June
On 29 June Trivigno, a municipality of 714 inhabitants in the province of Potenza, celebrates its patron Saint Peter the apostle and martyr.
The name comes from trivinea, the pergola vineyard: shoots stretched on horizontal poles or tied to pollarded poplars. Today's coat of arms, three fruiting vines on three peaks, is not old: Giuseppe Gattini drew it at the start of the twentieth century precisely to tell the name.
On 3 November 1861 Crocco's bands attacked the town and were met with gunfire; the fighting lasted hours, and what followed disgusted even Borjes. Basilide Del Zio left the names of the six killed: Domenico Antonio Sassano, Michele Petrone, Teresa Destefano, Giambattista Guarini, Cristina Brindisi, Rocco Luigi Volino. There are 714 residents.
