Brindisi Montagna

Province: Potenza · Region: Basilicata · Population: 925 · Postal code: 85010

On 2 November 1861 the bands of Crocco, Borjes and Serravalle came this far, but the town was saved by a sudden fog that covered it: they passed by without seeing it. Today, every summer, it is Crocco's own story that is staged at the Grancia park, below the town.

The Grancia is fifty hectares and is the first rural historical park in Italy; the show is called La storia bandita and is performed in an amphitheatre seating 3,500, with three hundred local volunteers in costume. Carlo Rambaldi worked on the special effects, and Lucio Dalla wrote an original song for it. There are 925 residents.

Saint Nicholas of Bari, patron beneath the Fittipaldi castle

📅 Every year, on 6 December

Brindisi Montagna celebrates Saint Nicholas of Bari on 6 December; its 15th-century mother church was built over the remains of a small Byzantine-rite church, while the town lies at the foot of the castle that passed over time to the Sanseverino, the Antinori and finally the Fittipaldi family.
