Driving into Cirò Marina, visitors are greeted by rows of Gaglioppo vines stretching toward the Ionian Sea. This coastal town of roughly 15,000 residents is the engine behind Calabria's famous Cirò DOC wine and a major producer of regional IGP clementines. Until 1952, the area was simply an appendage of neighboring Cirò before gaining its own municipal status.
Long before its modern independence, this stretch of the Crotone shoreline was home to the ancient Magna Graecia colony of Krimisa. Today, it functions primarily as a summer beach resort and an agricultural hub, pairing classical history with a highly respected local wine culture.
