Feast of Saint Anastasia
📅 Every year, on 29 October
On 29 October Santa Severina celebrates its patron Saint Anastasia; the town also preserves the Baptistery and the "Andrea Carafa" Castle.
This is a young province: it was carved out of Catanzaro in 1992, along with Vibo Valentia, and only became operational three years later, when its first council was elected. It has 27 municipalities, a small number by Italian standards, spread between a stretch of Ionian coast facing east and an interior that climbs towards the Sila National Park. Inland it borders only Cosenza and Catanzaro; everything else is sea.
Almost everything runs through the capital: Crotone is by far the most visited town in the province, and the coast runs south from it to Isola di Capo Rizzuto and north to Cirò Marina, the next two largest towns. Leave the shore and Calabria changes: Petilia Policastro, Mesoraca and Cotronei sit towards the Sila, where tourists rarely go.
