In the Aragonese census of 1459 Casapesenna counted five hearths, that is five families; by 1689 there were forty. For centuries it was not a municipality: in 1928 it was absorbed into Albanova, the new commune the fascist regime made by joining San Cipriano d'Aversa and Casal di Principe, and when Albanova was dissolved it stayed a hamlet of San Cipriano. Autonomy came only in 1973.

The name may come from casa per selle, house for saddles: in the sixteenth-century baronial palace horses were saddled and shod. On the arms there is an arm holding a club, taken from the Vargas Machuca: it recalls Diego Pérez de Vargas who, having lost his sword at the battle of Jerez, tore off an olive branch and went on fighting with that. Among the public places of the village are a park of legality and the community centre named after Antonio Cangiano, the mayor killed by organised crime.
