The patron saint of Calvizzano is Saint James, celebrated on 25 July in the church that has been home to the Parish of San Giacomo Apostolo Maggiore since 1809, blessed in 1596 and completed in 1608, although the sacristy was not finished until 1746.
Devotion to the «apostolo Jacovo» in Calvizzano goes back to before the year 1000, with documents referencing it as early as 911. In the past, the feast was called the «Festa del tomolo di sancti Jacovo», as local farmers, to thank the saint for the harvest, would donate a tomolo of wheat to the poor. The town also holds the Church of San Pietro and the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
