The patron saint of Casalnuovo di Napoli is Saint James the Greater, celebrated on 25 July. The town, however, also has a second patron, Saint Blaise of Sebaste, celebrated on 3 February: numerous traditions are tied to this date, first among them, common also to the town's other patron saints, that of carrying the saint's statue in procession through the town's streets.
Saint Blaise is protector of the throat and of domestic animals: on 3 February the faithful customarily bring their animals to church to receive a blessing, a rite that testifies to the persistence of a popular devotion rooted over time, alongside the cult of the town's other patrons.
