Marano di Napoli

Province: Naples · Region: Campania · Population: 57,204 · Postal code: 80016

On the hills climbing from the Phlegraean Fields toward the Camaldoli ridge, Marano is a hinge-city of the area north of Naples: a farming village for centuries — cherries and vines shaped its tradition — and today among the most populous towns of the metropolitan ring. Yellow Neapolitan tuff, quarried here for generations, built half the town and left behind caves and old farm estates.

From its hillsides the view takes in the gulf and the Phlegraean Fields: Pozzuoli, the Solfatara crater and the Bacoli shore are a few kilometres off, Naples half an hour. An unpretentious base in the truest Campania.
