The patron saint of Portici is Saint Cyrus, celebrated every year on 31 January, his liturgical feast day, and again on the first Sunday of May, when a solemn procession takes place through the town's streets: the event sets out from the basilica of Santa Maria della Natività e San Ciro, the town's main church, dedicated to him together with the Virgin.
Portici is also known for its Royal Palace, whose park is today a popular visitor destination, and for having been the scene, on the occasion of a royal couple's triumphal entry into Naples on 2 July of an unspecified year, of festivities and entertainments organised in their honour by courtiers, including an unusual show proposed by a wealthy Neapolitan nobleman of the Cangiano family. The town also holds the Pietrarsa National Railway Museum, recalling the origins of Italy's first railway line, the Naples-Portici, and a small sanctuary known as the «little Lourdes» of Portici.
