The patron of Trecase is Saint Januarius, celebrated on 19 September; devotion to him has long been tied to the local people's pleas for protection from Vesuvius eruptions.
The saint's wooden statue is carried on shoulders through the streets of the town, setting out from the sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie e San Gennaro; when the procession returns, the "Incendio del Campanile" is held, a fireworks and choreographic display simulating the sanctuary's bell tower catching fire.
