Feast of Saint Nicholas
📅 Every year, on 6 December
On 6 December Campora celebrates its patron Saint Nicholas; the municipal territory includes Monte Monaco.
Campora lies in the inner Cilento, inside the national park, among the woods of Pruno and two streams that meet. The name comes from the Latin campus, which meant both flat ground and cultivated land. The coat of arms is a curiosity in itself: the municipal statute describes it none too clearly, as three columns on a ploughed field beneath a crown.
The first known lord is Turgisio de Campora, chamberlain of the Terra di Lavoro, who became owner of the place around 1170, in Norman times. Many centuries later, in 1862 and 1863, a number of men from the village joined the armed band of the lawyer Giuseppe Tardio, who in the Cilento was fighting the new unified state.
