Feast of Saint George
📅 On 23 April and on 19 August (votive feast)
On 23 April and, as a votive feast, on 19 August Cicerale celebrates its patron Saint George, to whom the town's church is dedicated.
The village takes its name from the chickpea, which is still grown here and remains the thing worth talking about. Its shape is all its own: two rows of houses on either side of a single street, on a spur of monte San Leo, on the right flank of the upper Alento valley.
Before Cicerale there was Corbella, higher up on monte Battaglia, and nobody lives there now: the ruins of the walls, of the church and of the castle are left. The oldest reports of Corbella are Norman and the last stop with the Angevins; and it is just then, in the second half of the fifteenth century, under the Aragonese, that the name of Cicerale appears for the first time. One village was going out as the other began.
