Orria has been a comune since 1806, and then it took in Perito as well. It stands in the middle of the Cilento, inside the national park, and all through the nineteenth century it looked to Gioi: first the circondario of Gioi, in the district of Vallo, under the Bourbons, then the mandamento of Gioi, in the circondario of Vallo della Lucania, with united Italy.

The frazione of Piano Vetrale, a few hundred people, was the birthplace in 1662 of a painter, Paolo de Matteis; today its houses are covered with murals. In the village there is also a museum of country life, and the origins of the place, uncertain, are put in the sixth century.
