In December 218 before Christ the battle of the Trebbia passed this way too: Hannibal was camped near Tavernago and managed to shut the Roman infantry into the marshy bed of the Luretta. That stream still marks the eastern boundary of the comune, and the Tidone the western one.

In the territory there are seven castles: that of Agazzano, begun by Alberto Scoto in the thirteenth century, and then the Bastardina, the Boffalora, Castano, Grintorto, Mirabello and Passano. On the coat of arms the band and stars of the Scotti stand together with the lion and sword of the Arcelli, the two families that disputed the village in 1412: the Arcelli accused the Scotti of rebellion and took the castle, the Scotti proved their innocence and got it back only in 1431.
