Feast of Saint Joseph and Fair
📅 Every year, on 19 March
On 19 March Farini celebrates its patron Saint Joseph with the Fiera di San Giuseppe; between April and May the potato pie festival is held.
Farini lies between the val Nure and the val Perino, in the Piacenza Apennines, and the highest peak in its territory is the Aserei, at 1432 metres. It is a young comune, and one made from below: it was set up in 1867 at the urging of local families, and above all of Giuseppe Zanellotti of Cogno San Savino — who became its first mayor — and of don Luigi Galli, archpriest of Groppallo, by detaching ten hamlets from two neighbouring comuni; it began to operate on the first of January 1868. Until 1980 it was called Farini d'Olmo.
On the night of 14 to 15 September 2015 the Nure in flood tore through the main village, gutting houses and carrying off cars. The following year the council had opened a merger proposal with Bettola and Ferriere: the referendum of 16 October 2016 threw it out, with no winning in all three comuni. From the past there remain the castle of Pradovera, recorded in 1257, the church of the Beata Vergine Assunta on the summit above Groppallo, and the tower of Sant'Antonino at Selva, the only surviving piece of a very old church.
