Castelnovo del Friuli

Province: Pordenone · Region: Friuli Venezia Giulia · Population: 913 · Postal code: 33090

The bell tower of the church of Borc was not born a bell tower: it was the tower of the medieval castle, and they converted it. The castle, which gives the village its name, was of the tenth century, and the name appears for the first time in 1140. The «del Friuli» was added in 1867, so as not to confuse it with the other Castelnovos.

At Villa Sulis there is an exhibition about bowls: pottery was made here, and a collection of it remains. The new church of Paludea took twenty-six years to go up: first stone in 1934, finished in 1960. In 1976 the Friuli earthquake brought down half the village.
