Feast of Saint Martin
📅 Every year, on 11 November
On 11 November Pinzano celebrates its patron Saint Martin with the traditional village fair and horse-shaped sweets; the Valeriano parish is dedicated to Saint Stephen instead.
The name comes from a Roman colonist called Pincius, to whom this land was assigned; the same holds for Valeriano and probably for Ampiano, while the tail «al Tagliamento» is a nineteenth-century addition. The river runs less than a kilometre from the village but seventy-five metres lower: between the square and the gravel bed lies a scarp the Tagliamento cut for itself, biting into the upper plain.
The first lord of Pinzano appears in 1134, Ermanno, and with him a castle on the hill. On 6 May 1976 the Friuli earthquake struck the village head-on; for the way it was rebuilt, and for the restoration of its works of art, the municipality received the gold medal for civil merit. The territory remains in seismic zone one, the highest.
