Established on October 15, 2001, Fonte Nuova is one of Lazio's newest municipalities. The town of just over 30,500 residents was formed by merging the districts of Tor Lupara and Santa Lucia, which originally belonged to neighboring Mentana and Guidonia Montecelio.
Located roughly 15 kilometers northeast of Rome, the area operates as a decentralized municipality. Rather than growing from a single historical core, its borders reflect a modern administrative reorganization within the Roman metropolitan area.
