Aquila d'Arroscia

Province: Imperia · Region: Liguria · Population: 176 · Postal code: 18020

Below the Ferraia lake there is a waterfall with a 25-metre drop, and in summer it runs dry: the water goes into the pipes of the reservoir, built in 1998 to irrigate fields in three villages of the valley.

Aquila d'Arroscia has 176 residents and its town hall in the hamlet of Piazza. Of the Clavesana castle, put up around 1090, there remain battlemented walls and a lopped-off polygonal tower; near the waterfall opens the Arma do Cüppà, a cave with prehistoric remains.

Fun facts about Aquila d'Arroscia

The patron is Saint Reparata and the feast falls on 8 October. The parish church that carries her name was built between 1582 and 1589, and local sources put its consecration on 8 October 1597: the day of the dedication and the day of the feast are the same. The baroque façade was finished in 1625.

The church's wooden choir was not made for it: it comes from the Augustinian convent of Pieve di Teco. Not far off stands the oratory of San Sebastiano, of 1732. Aquila d'Arroscia is also one of the eleven municipalities where the garlic of Vessalico is grown.
