Ranzo

Province: Imperia · Region: Liguria · Population: 556 · Postal code: 18020

In a village of a few hundred people a family of painters was born: the Guido da Ranzo. In the church of San Pantaleo there is a polyptych by Giorgio Guido of 1554, in the oratory of the Vigne another of his of 1544, and at Bacelega paintings by his father Pietro are kept.

The ownership of the village, on the other hand, was a piece of geometry: in 1386 the doge of Genoa ruled that the Del Carretto should hold a quarter of Ranzo as their own and the other three quarters as a fief on behalf of the Republic. The people of Ranzo, for that matter, had gone in 1233 to found Pieve di Teco together with the others of the valley. The population is 556.
