Costarainera

Province: Imperia · Region: Liguria · Population: 803 · Postal code: 18017

Here the climate was a cure. The village stands at two hundred and forty metres on a hill facing the sea, sheltered from the north wind, and at the beginning of the twentieth century a heliotherapy hospital was built here that was known throughout Italy for decades: people came to be cured by the sun.

From the highest point, where an old watchtower stands, on clear winter mornings you can see Corsica, the mountains of Tuscany and Provence as far as Cap Camarat. The name comes from the Raineri, the family that set up its holding here in the thirteenth century: Costa dei Raineri. The population is 803.
