Vendone

Province: Savona · Region: Liguria · Population: 403 · Postal code: 17032

In a municipality of four hundred people there are the remains of two castles, and they were built against each other: the Clavesana one at Castellaro, triangular, with its hexagonal tower twenty-five metres high made of river pebbles and blocks of Cisano stone; and the one Albenga raised at Curenna — castrum Cuculariae in the documents — precisely to stand up to the Clavesana in the valley.

Of the Albenga castle few ruins are left, but in the village there are still medieval tower-houses. Vendone lies on the slopes of Castell'Ermo, among olive groves and chestnut woods: the chestnuts here are of the roscetta and gabbiana varieties. The population is 403.

Saint Antoninus, patron of a village of medieval tower-houses

📅 Every year, on 2 September

Vendone celebrates Saint Antoninus on 2 September; his parish church stands in the main village, while the village still holds several medieval tower-houses and, on the southern slope of Monte Peso Grande, the sanctuary of San Calocero.
