The patron of Bergeggi is Saint Martin of Tours, celebrated on 11 November in the church of San Martino Vescovo.
Off the village, a few hundred metres from the shore, lies the island: on its summit remain a circular watchtower and the ruins of a 4th-century church dedicated to Saint Eugene, of African origin, and of the monastery that followed it. For this reason the islet was long called after Saint Eugene; in 1245 a bull of Innocent IV suppressed the monastery and the island passed to the Republic and the diocese of Noli.
